5 Traditional Christmas Cocktails

If you’re like a lot of us here at The Gibson, you love a traditional Christmas. You get a real tree (none of that fake stuff), you make real hot cocoa and popcorn strings for your tree, and you use real butter in all your cookies and cake recipes.

So why not have some traditional Christmas cocktails for your guests this season? Here are a few of our absolute faves.

The Christmas Cookie

This delectable cocktail blends Kahlua and Bailey’s Irish Crème with a shot of peppermint Schnapps. It’s so good, we know Santa would much rather have this drink than that tall glass of milk waiting by his plate of cookies.

The Chocolate Peppermint Stick
Lots of us only eat peppermint during Christmas time. There’s just something about it that feels warm and toasty. To make this drink, use white creme de cacao and peppermint Schnapps to give you that minty chocolate goodness.

Hot Buttered Rum

This is probably the most traditional holiday classic of all. It’s great for one or two or a small party. It warms you right up. Combine two cups of brown sugar, half a cup of butter, a pinch of salt and two quarts of hot water in 5 quart slow cooker or crock pot. Add a couple of cinnamon sticks and a few cloves and cook on low for about five hours. When it’s done, stir in the rum and top with whipped cream. Yum.

The Snowball

This is an amazing cocktail made with 1921 Tequila Cream Liqueur, vanilla, milk, Kahlua and cinnamon sticks.  Mix 3 ounces of the liqueur, 3 drops of vanilla, ½ ounce of Kahlua and 1 ounce of milk. Shake, pour, sprinkle with cinnamon and top with a cinnamon stick. A snowball in a glass!

The Grinch

There’s always that one Grinchy guest who hates snow, hates peppermint and hates greenery. You’ll please your grumpiest guest with the Grinch cocktail. It’s easy: 2 ounces of Midori, ½ ounce of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of simple syrup. Shake, pour into a martini glass and garnish with a cherry. It’ll make their hearts three sizes bigger—we promise.
